（1）调查和初步统计了重庆市生态旅游资源，包括地理区位、水资源、主要旅游景点分布等旅游资源，分析了影响重庆生态旅游发展的经济整体运行环境、社会综合背景、生态
环境质量等因素。
（2）得出了重庆市生态旅游发展的优势和局限性。重庆得天独厚的自然人文旅游资源、社会经济的快速发展，“一小时重庆”、“半小时主城区”等交通建设项目等都为生态旅游的发展提供了契机，但是由于生态旅游法律法规不够健全、生态旅游的管理经营不够规范合理、生态环境质量不高，人们的环保意识不够强烈等都成为重庆发展生态旅游的主要制约因素。
（4）重庆生态城市综合评价指标体系包含总目标层、、准则层、要素层、指标层4层，总目标层生态旅游可持续发展程度，准则层为影响其发展的经济、环境、社会三大要素，要素层包括整体经济水平、旅游经济效益、生态旅游经营、生态旅游资源质量、生态旅游环境质量、生态环境效益、社会综合背景、生态旅游管理、生态旅游社会效益、生态旅游与社会协调度10个指标，指标层则有31个指标。
（5）根据重庆生态旅游可持续发展指标体系，利用层次分析法和和多目标线性加权函数法建立生态旅游可持续发展评估模型，根据国家相关标准提出了评价指标标准，以2001年为基准年，对2001－2006年重庆的生态旅游可持续发展程度进行了评价。结果表明，重庆生态旅游可持续发展水平在2001年至2006年均处于可持续发展的初步阶段，且保持整体呈上升趋势，
（6）提出了重庆市生态旅游规划的目标、任务及相关具体模式。
